Surnames: Ramsay Gartley
Dr. George Gartley and Dr. R. G. Ramsay Sr. studied at Battle Creek Sanitorium in Battle Creek, Mich. and then moved to Memphis, TN in Oct. 1909 where they bought the McDavitt Home (built 1859 on the Old Raleigh Road) and established Gartley-Ramsay Hospital, which opened in 1910. Additions were made over the years and it had 50 beds at the largest point. It had a trainingschool for nurses. It was a Neuro-Pyschaitric Hospital, but also accepted genral hospital patients until 1950 when the demand for psychaitric beds in the mid-south area had increased. I found it listed in the city 1961 City Directory with Dr. Robert G. Ramsay Jr. as Pres. & Admin. His wife, Martha H. Ramsay was VP & Sec. It was located at 696 Jackson Ave. Not sure when it ceased operations, but it was tore down before the Aug. 2000 when the Salvation Army built the Purdue Center of Hope facility on that site.
