Does anyone know Amanda Lightfoot? I found a letter in Joseph Neal's (Many, Sabine Parish, LA) papers. The letter, dated 1847, wriiten by Amanda Lightfoot was addressed to "Dear Brother". Joseph was killed 1845, two years before the letter was written. In the letter she mentions getting a letter from cousin John Guffin. Joseph was married to Jane "Mc"Guffin. She also says Tomas J ( Amonte?).is going to school (as if he is in her household) and wants to go see grandpa and also a Tomas J. Guffin. It appears that she may have had an accent. Possibly Indian? ( cousin=cuzen; want to = wantue; school = scool; talks = tawkes) Does this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks. Sue
