Good News. On October 27, 2008, the State Gazette's on-line edition posted an article entitled "Volunteers Establish County Archives." According to this report, Family Search and the state are working together to microfilm historical documents throughout the state. One copy of the microfilmed documents will go to the state archives, one will go to the Genealogy Society of Utah and a third will be given to the county.
"Colleen [Helquist] and her husband, Lamar Helquist, have spent the last 14 months cleaning, flattening, organizing and filing the documents. They have, essentially, started a county archive.... Janet Frey [of Family Search] and Carol Roberts [director of preservation services for the Tennessee State Library and Archives] listen as Colleen Helquist explains that undated estate inventories and settlements were placed in a special file. Frey hopes to begin microfilming all 12,000 files in February for genealogical purposes."
