My great-great-grandfather was Caswell Rains. Caswell Rains was a Civil War veteran, having fought on the side of the North, loosing an eye in battle probably in the Knoxville area. He donated the land on which the first schoolhouse was built in Campbell County, Tennessee. It was a two-room school named Rains Grove in honor of him. The grove part was suggested by the grove of huge beechnut trees that shaded the rough terrain on which the school was built.
I cannot find anything documenting his death in Campbell County. Can you help me?
