Alexander Brodie 1771-1773 received 6 land grants totally 2,250 ac in Fredericksburg Twp or Craven Co or Town Creek in Camden District (they're probably all together in one place). There's a stream named Town Creek just 5 km S of Camden in Kershaw Co SC; I think this is the place where Alexander Brodie settled. I'm seeking info to confirm that this Alexander Brodie was the son of James Brodie who was the son of John Brodie & Martha Sclater of Hampton, Elizabeth City Co, VA married there 1722.
According to wills & other records, Alexander Brodie was b.Abt 1750 and married __?__ of SC. They had James Brodie d.11 Jan 1782 York Co VA; his will leaves 1/2 of property in SC to sister Charlotte Brodie (under age 21) & 1/2 to relative John Sclater & his 2 sons Richard & John Sclater.
According to VA State Library, Charlotte Brodie was betrothed abt1780 in Camden SC to Francis Smith. The Revolutionary War separated them and they met each other again 31 years later. Miss Charlotte Brodie & Major Francis Smith of Prince Edward Co VA m.28 Jun 1811 at Williamsboro, Granville Co, NC.
