My gggreatgrandmother, Catherine A. Foster was b 22 Sep 1813 and d 10 May 1912. According to her obit her father was John Foster. "The latter was a soldier in one of the Pennsylvania regiments during the revolutionary war... Mrs Brooks also spoke of the fact that her father had seen George Washington and had been associated with him in some of his campaigns against the British." He must have been born before 1760, if he served in the war.
Does anyone know this John Foster? There were several soldiers of that name and I'm unable to determine who her father is. She also spoke of living in Philadelphia not far from the home of William Penn. Would this make sense back in the 1820s? Where did Penn live during his time in Pennsylvania?
Catherine Foster married Jonathan Jarman Brooks in 1834. They lived in Philadelphia, but moved west to Indiana before 1860.
Any help much appreciated.
