There is a Mildred that can be found with several different maiden last names (Dishong, Altimus, Johns, and Buterbaugh)from Indiana, PA. Here is how she got them all:


Pearl Dishong (Mildred's mother) was engaged to a Mr. Altimus (First name is currently unknown). Pearl gave birth to Mildred out of wedlock (Altimus's child). However, he ran off with Pearl's sister. Pearl then married Charles Buterbaugh. Pearl shipped Mildred off to live with the Johns family until Mildred was old enough to come back and help take care of Pearl's children by Charles Buterbaugh.


As for references, Mildred was my great grandmother. Before my grandmother (Dora Fridley) passed, my mother made sure we had the story straight on why she had so many names.

I always thought it was an interesting family story and just wanted to share it. :) Hopefully it helped someone out and didn't confuse anyone.
