Notes for SARAH THATCHER:
1776 Daniel and Sarah were killed in a cabin fire. Their five children were placed under the guardianship of Sarah's brother, Stephen Thatcher.

My ancestor was Samuel Thatcher (& Mary (Wright) Thatcher). He was Sarah's brother. I have his death date listed as November 2, 1776 (at the age of 28). He having a son the same year also (Jonathan Thatcher b. July 9, 1776). So I'm imagining that he (Samuel) too may have been killed in the fire or survived longer and then died. I read in an article with a source cited as Biography of West Virginia 1928 that Stephen's wife had been scalped but survived and wore a turban to disguise her disfigurement. Though I haven't researched the source book, the biography can be found here:

There is no mention of the Bailiffs or Samuel Thatcher's death and I don't know that it was the same incident, but had read that it happened a lot around where they lived on account of they were West of the Appalachian Mountains which was at one time designated Indian Territory. And that Indians would come and set fire to their houses and barns.
So I was wondering if you could cite your source for Sarah Bailiff's "house fire" and appreciate and welcome any information, sourced or not, as I am willing to do my own research. Thanks.
