Notes for MARION F. WRIGHT:
Compendium of History Reminiscence and Biography of Western NE Containing a History of the State of NE, Alden Publishing Company, Chicago, 1909, page 702:
"M. F. Wright, one of the old settlers of NE, helping materially in the developing of the eastern part of the state for many years, and who has watched its progress almost from its earliest pioneer days, now lives on section 13, township 21, range16. He is considered well-to-do, ahd enjoys a comfortable home and well improved farm, all of which he has earned by his thrift ahd industry, supplemented by good management and persistent endeavor.
"Mr. Wright is a native of Mercer CO, MO, born in 1867. He is a son of A. H. and Jenett (McDougle [sic]) Wright. His father and mother were farmers who settled there many years ago, and he grew up there and was taught to do all kinds of hard work in his boyhood, receiving but a limited education, or such as could be obtained by attending the old-time district schools. He now lives in Burwell, NE, and has a nice comfortable home. Our subject left home at the age of twenty-one years, and came to NE with his parents, landing in Garfield CO in December 1885, when he was only eighteen years old, and has lived here ever since. His father took up a homestead of one hundred sixty acres, and at once started his farm and home, often in the early days meeting with many discouragements during the dry years, losing crops at different times, which was a serious setback to him during the pioneer years when he was trying so hard to get together a little property. however, when the better years began he was successful in raising good crops of corn, wheat, oats, rye, also getting together quite a lot of stock, and is now in comfortable circumstances. Before going to NE he helped his father farm in MO, but considers this state much better for the poor than MO, as a man can farm more land here and it is cheaper.
"Mr Wright was married to Miss Cora Kester, born and raised in IA [wrong--see Cora's obituary]. She is the daughter of W. K. and Ann (Rape) Kester. They have a pleasant home and are the parents of five children, two boys and three girls, namely: Cora, Martha, Annie, Elmer, and Clarence.
"Politically Mr. Wright is a Republican, but has never devoted any time to public affairs."

Obituary
Marion F. Wright was born at Ravenna, Mo., Dec. 29, 1869 and departed this life Dec. 14, 1935 at the family home northeast of Burwell, NE.
He came with his parents to NE when a small boy and located in Garfield CO and had made this his home continually since.
On Christmas day 1888 he was united in marriage to Cora E. McNutt at Willow Springs, early CO seat of Garfield CO. To this union one child was born, now Mrs Cora Ashman of Burwell. The mother died January 26, 1890 just a few days after the daughter was born leaving the father to meet the hardships of life and rearing the daughter alone. After two years of the lonely battle, he was again united in Marriage to Cora B. Kester, Dec. 17, 1891 to this union were born, Elmer, Martha, Clarence, and Rebecca. Martha and Clarence preceded their father in death, having passed to the beyond in childhood. The wife and mother preceded the father in death only eight days and in the closing days of his life his greatest desire was that he might depart to be with her.
Cora, Elmer, Rebecca, one brother Joe Wright and one uncle Wm Wright of Burwell remain to mourn the loss and comfort each other in the "Valley of the Shadow."
Mr. Wright was a member of the I.O.O.F., being a charter member of the local lodge and was held in high esteem by his brothers in the lodge. He was a good neighbor and friend and this large company paying their last respects to a friend and brother.
And so beside the silent sea,
I wait the muffled oar;
No harm from him can come to me
On ocean or shore.
I know not where His Islands lift
Their fronded palms in air;
I only know I can not drift
Beyond His love and care
Whittier
The funeral was conducted from the Methodist Church by the pastor J. Bruce Wylie and the I.O.O.F. in church, at the cemetery Mitchell service in charge.
