Many counties did not keep marriage records or did with varying degrees of completeness from 1852 to 1855 but I have found some of the folks I have been researching who were recorded with quite a bit of information. One female was getting married for the second time and I had no information that she was widowed.
On January 12, 1852, the Pennsylvania Legislature enacted its first statewide law requiring the registration of vital records, including marriages. Probably due to lack of compliance, the law was repealed in 1855.
