Kay, check out my recent posts on the Lehigh County, PA, message board regarding this family. Start with "Moyer/Meyer Family of NW Lehigh County, PA > Ohio." Each "Part" of the replies to this original message concerns one of the children of this family, most of whom moved to Ohio in the 1830s. I have a few more parts to add yet, but "Evidence of this family in OH, Part 7" concerns John Moyer and his children. I think this is the John Moyer you are looking for. You will also find clues about your branch among the other branches.
It would be interesting to look through Lehigh County newspapers of this period to see why there was such an exodus from this area of the county westward during this period. Was there a crop failure? Did the settlers run out of land due to the fact that they had such large families? Did Ohio real-estate salesmen lure them west with a promise of cheap land? Did the completion of the National Road and other westward routes make the journey more attractive?
Whatever the reason, many of the names I find in Trumbull and Mahoning County, OH, censuses in the mid-19th century originated in northwestern Lehigh County, PA.
Best,
Nancy
