Norma, I am really hoping that you descend from Elizabeth Coles. I have made contact with a Coles who descends from her and her first husband, Robert Caldwell. However, I have never made contact with anyone who descends from Elizabeth and her second husband, William Heiddleston (var. sp. Hedleison, Hiddleston, Heddleston, Huddleston, Hiddleson, etc. etc.)
I have done extensive research of the descendants of Elizabeth's parents and have a website where over 100 cousins of ours have been invited. On that page we have about 800 photos, many from 1800s, some early 1900s.
Of the children of Solomon Coles and Elizabeth McCord, I have traced descendants for all of his surviving children and have attempted to trace the descendant lines to the current living generations.
Elizabeth Coleses' first son was named John McCord Caldwell after the maternal grandfather, John McCord.

Notes for WILLIAM HIDDLESTON:
Page 533-Jefferson Twp.--William Heiddleston is the oldest man in the township, and one of the few early settlers who are still living. He was born in Scotland, January 1, 1793. After coming to Summerfield and living some years in that vicinity, he came to his present farm about 1832. Mr. Heiddleston says this was then the most thinly settled region between Summerfield and Marietta. In early years he drove a team to Zanesville, Wheeling and Marietta, hauling goods for the merchants of this section of country. The roads were very bad, and he always took an ax along in order to cut out fallen trees from the track, and frequently found a use for it. He married Martha McClintock, whose father, William McClintock, was an early settler near Summerfield. For his second wife he married Miss Cowles. He is the father of fifteen children, ten of whom his first wife bore. Mr. Heiddleston is a remarkably well preserved old man and is still strong both mentally and physically.
An old log school-house stood on the present William Heiddleston farm about fifty years ago, and was the earliest in the neighborhood. . . .

John Caldwell was born In Noble County, Ohio, September 18 1844, and was the
third in a family of five children, of whom one brother, William, and two sisters,
Jane Neptune and Mary Moberly, are living. His parents were Robert Caldwell, a
native of Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth Ann (Coles) Caldwell, originally from Ohio.
His father died while the son was but a boy and his mother seven years after
married a William Huddleston. Her death occurred in 1872. In the spring of 1864
Young Caldwell entered the Twentieth Ohio Infantry and was attached to General
Sherman's command and served with him through his memorable campaign, being
discharged at Springfield in July, 1865. On Christmas day of that year, he was
married in Noble County, Ohio, to Miss Abigal Neptune, who was born in Belmont
County, Ohio, March 9 1844. In the spring of 1867 they came to Missouri and for
two years lived at Dresden, Pettis County. There he engaged in milling at which
he worked until 1880, coming to Henry County in 1877 when he erected the mill
on Deepwater. In 1869 he purchased his present tract of land and in 1875 he
moved upon it. He has 160 acres in cultivation and handles a number of cattle and
hogs. He and his wife are identified with the Methodist Episcopal Church and in
politics Mr. Caldwell is Republican. He stands prominent among the enterprising
men of Walker Township and takes an active interest in all matters of moral and
educational tendencies. His family has numbered eight children: Charles W.,
William Hampson, Nettie Jane, Francis Marion, Flora Ellen May, Florence Matilda,

November, 1882. He was born March 3 1869 and was a promising boy of nearly
fourteen years.
