I think now that the Stephen Pace who was named guardian of the two May girls in 1794 was a wealthy Stephen who soon went to Anson Co., NC. Thus he was not the Stephen Pace who was born in 1757 to John and Sarah Burge(Pope?) Pace. The wealthy Stephen Pace in Anson married into the May-Buchanan family in Anson Co. NC.
