I am UNSURE who invented the additional name "Mary" for Agnes ROPER, but there seems to be NO EVIDENCE in support of the assertion that Agnes was also named "Mary".
To the contrary, Agnes ROPER had a sister named Mary "Mollie" ROPER.
I do not know why people seem to like to invent additional names for ancestors.
Agnes ROPER (b 16 Jun 1766 - NC, d 30 Nov 1850 - Williamson, TN) is known to have married Thomas PROWELL on 17 Jun 1782 (Wilkes).
Two of Agnes ROPER's sisters also married PROWELLs:
Sarah ROPER m. Sampson PROWELL
Elisabeth ROPER m. William PROWELL
The former marriage was probably before 1790 and possilby before 1782. The latter marriage was probably between 1790 and 1800.
These marriages are supported by the 29 Jan 1862 affidavit of Hugh YATES, the nephew of these daughters of David and Sarah ROPER.
