We have proven mixed marriages starting with Granville County. Some of those people move west to our area. The LDS has Granville marriages but the NC archives doesn't. I dont know if the Archives misplaced their copies or Granville county was never returned to them. There are a lot of free people of color in the Granville area. I have mixed marriages with documented Indian in my family. Second The Lightfoot surname is a rare English name however A lightfoot did have a Cherokee wife. They had a child named Dorcas Lightfoot. Check early Cherokee rolls. One of her husbands was a Duncan. Some claim though I have not seen proof of Dorcas also being one of Chief Robert Benge's wives. The Benges and the Duncans lived in Wilkes/Surry County. There are a few "Rogue" Lightfoots in Early Wilkes County. They did not own land and left early on. Caldwell County was formed from both the NE part of Burke and the SW corner of Wilkes.

The Moravian were one of the few permitted into the Cherokee. They did have land in Wilkes County on the South Border of Wilkes not far from the Caldwell county border. Their land records are missing from the Wilkes Deed office however some people have Deed mapped part of Wilkes and through other peoples land it mentions where the Morovian land was. Wilkes does have a town Moravian Falls. Brushy Mountain range runs from Caldwell County to Yadkin running on the south border of Wilkes County.

Conrad Hidebrand that is a witness to your Lightfoot Williams Will. He was a Court Official in Burke prior during and after Indian Removal who seems to have known your Lightfoot Williams. I was told by Cherokee that Conrads brothers had Cherokee wives. We also per DNA have General Joseph Martin's descendants in that part of Burke that became Caldwell County. Joseph Martin who was Indian agent to the Cherokee. His Martin relatives married court officials in Burke/Caldwell - Jesse Moore of the Globe and William White. They are also related to the Coffey family of Wilkes. They lived right on the border of Wilkes/ Caldwell. Funny it seems all the court officials seem to have ties or related to the Cherokee. Also the Catawba were in our area. If there were a mixed community do you honestly think these court officials would have ratted out their own families while Indian removal is going on??? Also the American Indian was not permitted to be citizens of the USA until 1924. If your ancestor was not with a tribe and was living in "white society" they would be listed as white on the census. The Helton's of Burke/Calwell County have documentation of being Indian, their DNA is Indian but no proof of tribe and they do get listed white on the census.

George Martin is not mine. I just know that George Martin who was the son of Sarah McCoy and John martin got bound out to Lightfoot Williams. John Martin died right after he and Sarah McCoy were married. Thats why I asked you if you Martin might connect to George.
