Hi,
I appreciate your posting the 1860 census for me, I was going to look for that today. It was the only one I didn't have.
I do have photos of Marshall's gravestone, and have actually been there.
In everything that I have found on the internet Angeline is listed as Marshall's mother. However, in a hand written lineage given to my grand mother years ago, Elizabeth is named as Marshall's mother, and Angeline as his grandmother! Actually, the "supposed" father is named too. And, the writer states that Marshall looks like one of his half brothers!
I found the record of Marshall and Janie's marriage online yesterday too, and it does have Angeline and James as his parents. Somthing I noticed though? Elizabeth died just 2 days after they were married, which could explain why Angeline and James were there instead of Elizabeth.
I don't suppose I will ever find out for sure, unless I can talk someone in the alleged fathers family into having DNA testing done!!!
I like to have all my eggs in a row, so to speak, and will always wonder if we have another branch to our tree!
Oh, a sad thing to note about Angeline and James's children. Elizabeth and Martha were the only ones to make it out of childhood, and Elizabeth died when she was 42. Very sad....
