I'm chasing a Robert W. TOMPKINS, b. 27 Jan 1778, who died 19 Feb 1850 in Livonia, Livingston Co. His son and widow are on the 1850 census of Livonia (badly spelled as "Thompson").
Robert W. TOMPKINS and both of his wives (1. Phebe FREEMAN, and 2. Wealthy STODDARD, who was also a widow to Gideon Freeman - his first wife's brother)are buried in Union Cemetery, Livonia.
There is no Livingston Co. will for this man, but he owned land scattered across several counties, so it would seem likely that his estate went through probate in order to clear title.
1. How do I find out if an intestacy was filed in Livingston Co.?
2. If an intestate probate was filed, are the original probate packets available? If so, can someone suggest how I might order a copy?
Thanks for any info on how to obtain this record,
Leslie Mac
