Emily Pauline Johnson the Mohawk poet lived from 1861 till 1913.
Her father was Henry Martin Johnson 1816-1884
His father John (Smoke) Johnson 1792-1886
His father was Jacob Johnson 1758-1843
According to the book by Betty Keller called Pauline
Jacob was being babtized at Old Fort Niagra but he required a Christian Last Name. Sir William Johnson stepped forward and offered his surname to the native couple for their son. John Smoke Johnson joined with Joseph Brant and at the end of the American Revolution moved with 450 Natives to Brantford Ontario. He served with the Loyalist against the American Invassions in the War of 1812 with great success. He was NOT a royal cheif however he was an elected Captain.
Paulines Royal Line came from Catherin Martin whom had as a child carried the Communion Service from the Mohawk valley to the Chaple of the Mohawks near the Six Nations Reserve.
