Susan, my nasty real life job got in the way of my research for a few days. I called today and spoke with someone who was quite helpful. Suggested that I should contact the Catholic Diocese in Albany. All of the individual churches would have sent their records there. I was told there is a possibility that a city or county record might not have been filed so that's a good backup. Could be one stop shopping for everybody in my Albany tree. I called the Diocese and was told the archivist is out this week.
At any rate, they do have birth records and I did send for it. Cost was $22.
http://www.albanyny.gov/Government/Departments/VitalStatisti... I used the form at the genealogy info link. It has a very convenient fillable form where you can type in the info. Use your mouse and click in the center of each field to be able to type. The form doesn't look quite right because the address on the first page is incorrect, but it had the price matched with what I was told on the phone. Use the address on the web page:
Registrar, City of Albany
Vital Statistics
Room 254M
City Hall
Albany, NY 12207
They say they should respond within 2 weeks. Compared to the 6 month waits I hear some people talk about, 2 weeks sounds pretty good.
