Raona, Skipping Arthur Spencer`s Ohio Birth, and short stay in Michigan, He is found in Wilkens County, where the birth of their 4 children are recorded at Breckenridge. The CHouse records also record the family`s attempt at start up farming there, even though their address was Fort Abercrombie, Dakota Territory (Arthur`s mother`s (Mary Roxie Amsbaugh`s) estate papers from her father`s farm in Ohio. See the chattel mortages section.
Yes, I had some name confusion from my trip to Salt Lake, where some documents had name blending using middle names for the two brothers. I believe the date for the birth of Gracie was 1898.
The family is found on the 1900 Mn. census. Sherburne. They worked for a large farmer who had an island in the Mississippi river near Clearwater. Arthur moved to Crookston where there was a obit. saying that his wife had died from TB. and was to be taken back to Clearwater for Burial. She is found in the Catholic Cemetery in Clearwater which can be seen on the west side of the interstate in Clearwater. The Ellie name sidetracked me in the pre computer days, and I found her by lots of leg work, as with others in this family. I was her only visitor ever recorded according to the keeper of the grounds.
I had located her by visiting the main diocese records center in St. Cloud.
Next found in the MN. state census of l905, with his sister `Tillie`, he was in charge of the very large bar in downtown St. Cloud, which is still in operation with it`s very old, very ornate bar, and historic presence.
By 1906, the family had moved to Fromberg, Montana to a mountain homestad. I have a photo of their homestad home, with Mary in a buggy and Arthur nearby. I also have all the farm records there.
While a teenager, Earl went north and became a burser on a large boat that sailed Polson Lake. This was to be his home, where he had a store, was an outdoorsman and scout leader, and is buried there, in the shade of the great mountains. His brother Clarence who lived to be about 90 is also buried there. Clarence had a large family and they live in the area. Earl addopted a daughter that I visited. Gracie moved to California and had two married names, Yahn and Wiedeman.
Mary Roxie Amsbaugh Spencer died in abt 1915, and her records were on line as being buried in Rockville, beside the Yellowstone R. It took me two years to get the dates corrected, which were inversions of her birth and death dates. Her obit is in the Fromberg newspaper.
Lee can be seen on a photo I have of him dresed in a photo op skit with my grandfather Charles Spencer. I recently sent the photo to a granddaughter of Lee. It was taken just before he went to WW1. I also trtaced him through Boise, but never learned about his early death.
If you are an Amsbaugh from the Valentine group, you have a Revolutionary War person in your heritage. It is fairly easy to find his reoord as being at Valley Forge in that terrible winter. Look for Athey (Athy), I believe his first name was John, but I believe there was also a Thomas. I have it in records that are not handy at the moment. There was a very excellent Amsbaugh history duo, which followed this Athy Clan from the Tribes of Original Galway, to the indentured service that brought him over to Virgina/Maryland. He was given land on the Potomac for his service. The Historian now deceased is Larry Athey from Houston. His book is exemplary.
Footnote here, Arthur bought a small neighborhood store in Spokane, Washington, and lived out his life there. He is buried at the large cemetery on the city`s west boundry.

Before they raise a `limit your note` sign, I will sign off now. Best Wishes,
