Here's what I have (I'm researching the Abbey/Abby/Abbe family, and most of this info comes from a published Abbey genealogy). Mary Locelia Abbey was born 3 September 1843 in Dorset, Ashtabula co., Ohio. She was the oldest daughter of Harriet Rider and Dexter Abbey, who had connections to Ashtabula, Portage and Geauga counties in Ohio, as well as moved around to Peoria, Nebraska, and finally Missouri.
"Abbe-Abbey Genealogy, In Memory of John Abbe and his Descendants" by Cleveland Abbe states that Mary married married a "Lafe Merrifield", and that they had the following three children: Eugenia, who married a Mr. Jones and resided in Kendall, Montana; Nettie, who married a Mr. King and resided in Normal, Nebraska, and an unknown son. Mostly based on census records I figured Lafe was the James Lafeyette Merryfield born in Portage county to Ruth Center and Lyman Merryfield. Based mainly on census records, I found "Eugene" and her husband Richard W. Jones residing in Giltedge and Kendall through the 1930 census. I don't believe they had any children and I don't know their deaths. I haven't located the daughter Julia in any later records. Son Thomas Merryfield married Mary Swanser and had several children but I lose track of them. Not sure whether Thomas died young or there was a separation, and where everybody ended up.
Would like to trade information about the families with any Merrifield/Merryfield researchers; I have more on the Abbeys if you're interested. I'm descended from one of Mary's younger brothers, Martin Dexter Abbey. I also have records re: a Percy Willis Merrifield who I had thought was part of this branch at one point, if someone is interested.
