I can not connect your J. Ross McCrackin, but can suggest that if he had connections with Yalobusha Co., MS then he may well be connected in some way to Ephraim McCracken who was bout 1774 in Maryland and died 1850 in Yalobusha Co., MS. Ephraim married five times [ Elizabeth (Hall)Graham, Mary Mitchell, Jane A. Oliver, Elizabeth Ann (Gee) Walker, Mary Hodnet ] and is said to have raised at least 25 children and step children. One of those wives, Elizabeth Gee Walker, was also my ggg grdmthr. I received quite lot of info about Ephraim from a cousin that wrote a book about the 1850 census of Yalobusha Co. (Yalobusha Bound, by Chris B. Morgan). I checked what I have from him but did not find a Ross. Ephraim's last wife had 6 children by him from 1838 to 1849 and it does not appear to leave room for Ross to fit in there; so Ross might be a grandson by a son of an earlier wife. Also Ephraim had 6 brothers.Their parents were John McCracken and Jean Lytle. It appears that several went to TN, IL and MO. Ephraim went from Rowan Co., NC to Maury Co., TN and then on to Yalobusha Co., MS. Do you have any idea what Ross or his descendants look like? Ephriam's brother, Thomas (1778 -1859) died in Hickory Co., MO but lived in Williamson Co., TN where we have the report that he had 13 children and all of them had blues eyes like their father most of the sons were over six feet tall. Hope this helps.
