The Library in Bay Springs, Jasper County, Mississippi has early Paulding, Mississippi Newspapers on microfilm. In 1997 Jean Strickland and Patricia N. Edwards published an abstract of these newspapers. In Checking this publication I find Drury Sumrall listed several times. I'll try to give you a brief summary below;
June 17, 1846 Reverend Drury Sumrall was listed as the Chaplain for an upcoming 4th of July celebration in the Claiborne community.
June 14 1851 An advertisement for Columbia Female School 5 mile East of Paulding in the home of Drury Sumrall
Dec. 4, 1858 D. Sumrall had the best 2 year old colt at the Jasper County Agricultural Fair.
March 30, 1859 Drury Sumrall was nominated for Chairman of a public meeting to oppose increasing taxation.
April 18, 1860 Rev. Drury was the chairman of a meeting of Friends of the Paulding and DeSota R.R. project.

These records mention the school in the Sumrall home ran from 1851 to 1858
John Sumrall was listed as a private in Company G, " Tolson Guard, Jasper County, 8th Mississippi Regiment.
