I'm researching my son-in-law's family. He is descended from Ole Ambroson, b.1883 in Norway, whose father was Ambrose Drengmandson and mother was Anna Ambroson.

His family lore is a bit confusing. The story is that Anna Ambroson married Ambrose Drengmanson and that the said Ambrose assumed her surname. I thinkk they assume that Anna was the mother of Ole and Ambrose the step-father.

I found an Ambrose Drengmanson and wife, Anna, on the ship 'Britannic' arriving in New York May 25, 1885. Two children, Ingre and Ole were with them. Ole was not yet 2 years old.

My question: Did Anna Drengmanson die and Ambrose then marry a new Anna? Ambroson?.

My son-in-law has copies of the naturalilzation papers for Ambrose Drengmandson and Anna Ambroson. I thought it was most usual that the wife was naturalized at the same time and with her husband. But Anna Ambroson was naturalized in October of 1894 and Ambrose Drengmandson not until April of 1897. This seems a little unusual and gave me the idea that Anna and Ambrose were not married at the time.

Thank you for information, insights and suggestions.
