I found a record on Family Search for the marriage of a Charles A Edwards to Elizabeth E.A. Duffey, but it is in 1900.

From your post, I wasn't sure which person died, but you can go to www.seekingmichigan.org and search all of the state's death records from 1897-1920. You can view them all for free also.
