Thank you for the info that you have sent. At this point in my family researching, I have not interacted with any genealogical societies. I also had a reply to my post re: an African-American newspaper that was published for a time in Detroit, abt. 1870-1884, The Plaindealer------but now search is trying to find if any of its issues were preserved from that era. It might at least help w/info on Benjamin L. Clark, a physician in Detroit from 1860 on, according to censuses and city directory listings. Also perhaps may have an obit, since I am guessing for that time period that a physician/doctor was a person of some means for the time period.
I live in a rural area & not really sure if our library has ILL & microfilm reader. We are fortunate to have a LDS Family History Center here that has such equipment for ordering in records from their church---will have to check w/them re: this. I live in CA, so visiting the Burton Historical Collection is out of the question.
