I believe Mary E. Smalley was the daughter of David Smalley and Rebecca McDugal who lived in Lodi, Washtenaw Co. In the 1850 census Mary E. was enumerated with the family of David Geddes, her stepfather.

David Smalley was the son of Henry Smalley and Phebe Hand of Somerset Co., NJ. The family moved from NJ to Romulus, Seneca Co. NY, then to Friendship, Allegany Co. NY before coming to MI in the 1830's. Henry, Phebe, and David Smalley are buried in the Waters Rd. Cemetery, Lodi, Washtenaw Co.

Henry and Phebe Smalley were my 4th great grandparents. In addition to David they had sons named Chilion (my ancestor), Henry, and Noah. They also had a daughter named Rhoda, and I believe also daughters named Nancy and Martha.
