Amelia Longobardi
Age 105
Passed away peacefully May 16, 2006 at Rose Arbor Hospice. She was born November 24, 1900 to Frank and Julia Trapani Longobardi in Jackson, MI the seventh of nine children. She moved to Ann Arbor in 1915 where she resided until October of 2000 when she moved to Portage where she resided at Alterra Wynwood. The Longobardi family moved to Ann Arbor where she became acquainted with George Wedemeyer who lived 2 doors away. They were eventually married on February 11, 1929 and were married for 64 years. After high school Amelia briefly attended the University of Michigan School of Music where she was a member of the Glee Club. Thereafter she worked for Edward Brothers until she was married. Amelia was very active in the founding of St. Francis parish and she became the first president of the Altar Society. She was active in the Antique Study Group of Ann Arbor and Ann Arbor Women's City Club as well as a volunteer for Catholic Social Services. Her interests were in gardening, cooking, antiques, painting and worldwide traveling. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Sippel of Evanston, IL and Georgiann (Dr. Russell Hibbard Jr.) McWilliams of Plainwell, Michigan.
