As a hobby I rescue old photos that have identification on them and attempt to locate family to send them to. I recently picked up one of a young lady, who may have been graduating. She's dressed in a beautiful bustled white dress with a large bunch of flowers on the front of the dress and she's holding what appears to be a collapsed fan in both of her hands. (As first I thought it was a scroll but it's not round.) It was taken in Portland, MI.
There is the word Elkton written on the back. A search shows that there is an Elkton, Huron Co. MI and I found a marriage record for the child of Edward Heyman & Mae Selleck, in Deckerville, Sanilac Co. Deckerville isn't far from Elkton. It's possible that the photo was taken by a traveling photographer who had it developed by this studio in Portland, MI-which is several hours (by modern car) from the east side of the state.
