Thanks to a kind individual who responded to my query I have new information which leads me to think that Joseph Scott was born in 1824 and married a Matilda Locke some time after 3/15/1876 when his first wife, Hannah, died.

So the Harriet Gardner information in my previous posting could very likely be incorrect.
