It may depend on what year the death occurred. I believe Michigan started "official" death certificates (the form with info filled in) in 1897. If the death occurred in 1897 or after you should be able to get a copy of the official form from the state. Prior to that year is it very likely death information was hand written in books--maybe why you received a transcription. It is very common for info to be missing because if just was not recorded at the time of the death.

Here are two sites that may help you if the death occurred between 1867 and 1920. For 1867-1896 the info was transcribed into the database. For the latter you can view the actual death certificate on line (use advanced search it works better). Keep in mind you may have to play around with the search due to name misspellings and typos.
