I believe that my Sophia (Fenner) Ellis married 2nd to
Thomas Goldsmith sometime between 1850 & 1860. Thomas Goldsmith & Sophia reside in 1860 census in the town of Cohoctah, Livingston County, MI. Household stated as follows:
Thomas Goldsmith 40 NY
Sophia 38 NY
Joseph Ellis 17 MI
Alva Ellis 19 MI
1880 census for Cohoctah, Livingston Co., MI as follows:
Thomas Goldsmith 64 NY
Sophia 58 NY
cory Smith 18 hired girl housekeeper MI
Lawrence Laning 22 farm laborer MI
Albert Meeker 19 farm laborer OH
Sophia was 2nd wife for Thomas Goldsmith. Thomas' first wife was Joanna Adams who died.
Sophia if this is my Sophia , then her maiden name was Fenner and her first husband was Ely Ellis.
Ely or Eli Ellis and Sophia Fenner had 3 children that I know of . They are found as a family in the 1850 census
of Caroline twp, Tompkins County, NY as follows:
Eli Ellis 33 NY
Sophia 28 NY
Henry C. Ellis 6 NY
Margary Ellis 2 NY
Charles A. Ellis 1 NY
Charles & Henry both end up in Michigan by the time the Civil War begins. I have not found Margary or Eli anywhere as of yet.
Henry's death record records his mother's maiden name as Fenner.
Is anyone working on the Goldsmith, Ellis or Fenner family lines?
