Lydia, I found a message regarding another Chaffee in Lewanee county, Mich. I am looking for the date of his marriage. But he's a relative of the person you are looking for. In the LDS geneaology site I found the following listing of the family. Hope this helps you out, you should be able to see the Chaffee family back to 1635 if you click on Pedigree, to the original immigrant, Thomas Chaffee from England.
