Thanks for your response.
I have the 1880 and 1900 Censuses and 1879 death record for Clarissa. The 1850 Census for Mary Ann is interesting. I have not looked at Jonathan as a potential guardian (or uncle). Neither have I seen a connection with a sibling named George. Worth exploring.
According to Mary Ann's death record (the "her"), Edward, the father, was born in Norfolk, England. Husband William Conkrite was the informant:

According to a ledger entry from Mary Ann's marriage to William, she was born in Portage Lake, Michigan. I am aware there are not any inhabited places with that name, but there several lakes in disparate locations around the state.
I hope this clue leads to the information I am really interested in, which is the whereabouts of Edward, Mary Ann's father, and Clarissa's husband. He is in the 1840 Census in Victor, NY. After that I loose track of him, but at least two of the children are born in Michigan (Mary Ann and John) in the early 1840's. Clarissa returns to Victor in the 1850 census without Edward.
