Seeking more information about the family and ancestry of John Dane Jr. [1612-1684] and wife, Eleanor Clark. Would appreciate any verification, correction or addition to what we have below:
530. John Dane Jr. , born 1612 in England; died 1684, in Ipswich, Massachusetts. He married 531. Eleanor Clark Aft 1629 in Essex County, England. He married (M2) Alice Dutch Newman.
531. Eleanor Clark , died Abt 1641 in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
Notes for John Dane Jr.:
1. AUTHOR: John Dane Jr. wrote his life story in 1682, two years before his death. It was called " A Declaration of Remarkabel Prouedenses in the Corse of My Life" and consisted of 32 pages in a small 3.5x6 inch volume bound in parchment. It was written twice, once in prose and once in rhyme. The book is preserved at the NEHGS archives in Boston , , .â€
2. PUBLIC SERVICE: 1657 John Dane Jr. was a constable. He was a tithingman in 1677; a freeman in 1682; a selectman 1664-69,1676 and 1682. He served on six trial juries between 1647 and 1664 .
3. BROTHER TO REV. FRANCIS DANE: John Dane Jr. was brother to Rev. Francis Dane, minister at Andover for 48 years, who denounced the Salem Witchcraft trials .
4. WILL: John Dane Jr.’s will was dated May 31, 1684 and proved on September 30, 1684. In it he mentioned his wife, [M2] Alice; two sons, John and Philemon; daughters, Elizabeth and Sarah; and grandchildren, Mary Chandler and Daniel Hovey. He left to his son, John, a farm he bought from Mr. Richard Hubbard.
