ok i just picked up my dad's birth certificate at the town hall and its weird becuase in my da's obit it states his dad ( my grandad) name is diffrent from the birth cert. anyways this is what the birth cert. of my father states....
my dad: William DeMello
Date of Birth: July 14, 1922
place of birth: Dartmouth, MA
residence of parents: Dartmouth, MA
name of father, ( my grandad): Eugene DeMello
Birthplace of Father( my grandad): ST. Michael, Azores
Maiden name of mother ( my grandmother): Margaret Arruda
Birthplace of mother ( my grandmother) ST. Michael, Azores

Note: in my dads obit it states that his father my grandfather's name was Virginio B. DeMello
Another Note : in the obit it names my dad's siblings and here they are: sister Leona Medeiros ( maiden name DeMello)
brother: Frank Mello of Rochester MA
for some weird reason my father for many years went by the last name Mello and then years before he died began going by his birth name again of DeMello. my name is William Mello and obviously he decided to drop the De for me too. i was told it was common for Portuguese people to do that then. anyways i hope this helps and thank you so much. oh one more thing, i have no dates for my grandparents and was told i would have to get in touch with Portugal for their records and it would be very difficult.
