Surnames: Sultaire, Sulter
Hi Bob...I sent you an email about a week ago from my other AOL email address but thought I should post this on here as well to share with other Sultaire researchers.

I find your posting very interesting. I recently searched the Ellis Island Records and found the following information that I believe might tie into yours.

Joseph Sultaire, age 58 came over from France in 1892 with his wife Melanie, age 52. With them came a girl by the name of Elise Sultaire, age 10. The records do not state the relationship of the girl to them. I am betting its a late in life daughter or perhaps a granddaughter. Joseph is a sibling of my GGF, Frederick Sultaire.

I also found a record for a Frederic Sultaire, age 36, Charisse Sultaire, age 29, Leon Sultaire age 10 and Constance Sultaire age 8, coming from France to Pittsfield, Mass to "join father". (The majority of my Sultaire went to Pittsfield and the surrounding areas, then down to Torrington, CT). I am wondering if this could be the Claressa/Charesse that is buried at St. Francis Cem?

I have yet to be able to tie them into one specific family but I know they are related to me.

There is also a Jules Sultaire that keeps popping up in various records that I have yet to be able to tie in, but just found that his death record is held in Torrington. He died in 1912. I was born and raised in Torrington, though I now live in Plymouth, Mass. I have just called and sent away for the death records of that mysterious Jules. Wondering if he ties into this other Torrington Sultaire family. As it stands now, and has stood for over 30 years, all the Sultaires in Torrington and Winsted are my uncles, cousins, ect. So this new branch who none of us know intrigues me so.

Can you send me more specfic dates on Elsie (who could be Elise--I've found all sorts of name spelling changes with this family!!!). You mentioned that they are buried at St Francis Cemetary. Do you know if it is Old St Francis Cemetary or New St. Francis??

If you like I will use my resources to see if I can find some records for Joseph and Elsie (my mother works for the Reg. of Voters in Torrington and has access to many records).

In the meantime would you like me to send you a copy of our family history so far? We are undoubtly related. There is only one Sultaire family in Torrington/Winsted and that's my family line, so I'm sure we are cousins somehow--just to find out how!!

Take care!
MaryEllen
