I can tell you that my wife's Butler's from Waterville were really Breton's dit Hele Helie or Elie from Beauce county in Quebec province. They came to Watervile about 1848. Why the name change? My guess is to get work. There was a Thomas along with Charles. The father was Francois. I have them in the parish of ST. Francis de Beauce.

So be careful looking for you Butlers in Waterville.
