According to several Kendall researchers cited below, your Thornton Kendall/Kindle d.Putnam Co IN m.Jemima ___ & son James Kendall m. Lucy Grigsby also m. Nancy Weaver &also m. ___ Newberg. This Kendall Line goes to William Kendall b.St.Paul's Parish, Kent Co, MD m.Elinor Roach b.1706 St.Paul's Parish, Kent Co MD. Here are several sources/ researchers (not all of whom agree with each other) of the several generations of Kendall's & connections that are involved in this Line:
Hazel Kendall ms pg 124a: Thornton d. Putnam Co Ind. m. Jemima: lived Nelson Co Ky where children married." And she shows 5 children.
--Bev Wyman <Bevwyman2@aol.com> has info on Thornton & I sent her info Mar 98 & Jun 98 on sources w/ info on his ancestors; sent her a gedcom, KendallW.ged on Wm Kendall/Elinor Roach & descendants 13 Jun 98.
--Hazel Kendall ms pg 124a: "Kendle (Kendall) from Bucks Co Pa and Philadelphia area. Marriage licenses 1740-1790: Wm., Henry, Benjamine, David, John, Thomas, Donald, James, George, Joseph. Benjamin: Fayette Co Pa assessed Aug 10, 1785} Reuben, Jared} all three in Indian War with Simon Kenton and Geo. Rogers Clark. JAMES KENDALL b.1763 Maryland m. Ruhanna Moore settled Kentucky." Hazel lists: Benjamin, James, Elisha, Mary, Elizabeth as bros/sis. She gives these references: "Emma A Short letter Apr 16, 1929 Winchester, Ohio; Frank W Kendall letter, Peebles, Ohio; Miss Made Kendle letters 1947, 1957 of 259 So. 8 St., Council Bluffs, Iowa."
--Also Yates FGR 1985: Frances E Miller, 1203 Dewey Ave, St.Joseph, MO 1985 that adds 3 children: James Kendall & wife Mary Polly McNemar; Thomas Kendall & wife Elizabeth ____; and Ruhama/Ruhanna Kendall & husbands #1 Andrew Robertson & #2 William Querry. Also this FGR does not show Thornton Kendall or Elizabeth Kendall as children of James Kendall Jr & Ruhama/Ruhanna Moore. (Until later info comes along, I kept these last two children and added the other 3 to total 13 children instead of 11--FK.)
--Correspondent Anne Long, Route 2 Box 671, Grangeville, ID 83530 provided FGR 26 Feb 1986 on James Kendall/Ruhannah Moore showing total of 24 children. With 2 other children not duplicated from above info totals 26. I did not add these to the FGR; those not added are: 2-Elizah Kendall m. Dorcas Denney 14 Nov 1824, 8-John Kendall, 12-George Kendall, 13-Frank Kendall, 14-Wilison Kendall, 15-Delannah Kendall, 16-Hester Kendall, 17-Jessie Kendall, 18-Nelson Kendall, 19-Mewie Kendall, 22-Phoebe Kendall, 23-Nancy Kendall m. Matthew McColm 6 Apr 1827 Adams Co, OH, 24-Asa Kendall m. Rebecca Foor 23 Apr ____. Also two others shown from above info she does not include would be: 25-Thornton Kendall-10068 d.Putnam Co,IN m.Jemima___-10102, 26-Thomas Kendall-10855 m.Elizabeth___-10862. This appears to be too many children in the family and further research needed.
--Correspondent Anne Long noted: "Historical Collection of Brown Co OH" by Carl N Thompson, 1969, pg 12: "Eagle twp: JAMES KENDLE & his sons AARON, JAMES, HOSEA, SAMUEL, BENJAMIN, Samuel Cross, Joseph Statler, Jeremiah Fenton Sr & Jeremiah Fenton Jr were also early settlers in the township." Note that some family members are noted in Adams Co OH; Brown Co OH is adjacent to Adams Co.
--FGR of Lynn D Fleury shows James Jr death date as ca1785. If this is so, then who fathered children born after?
--Terry Bodkin <egals@jps.net> has info on this line. One of his correspondents notes this reference: "Winchester OH Pioneer History" pg 48; &
James Kendall/Ruhama Moore family lived in Winchester Twp, Adams Co, OH for a
time, about 1800: see 11th child, Benjamin: born there in 1803, for example.
--Staci Woodruff <woodruffs@juno.com> added info 20 Mar 97.
--Joe Kendall <jmkendall@juno.com> post 15 Jan 99 to KENDALL-L: "This information is condensed from a letter written by Mrs. Elpha Kendall Martin of Shawnee Mission KS to the Tippecanoe Co IN Historical Society 30 Aug 1962: `My family lived in Tippecanoe County and my Grandfather [ William Rhoades Kendall ] was born there [ she names the family & birth dates ]. It is my understanding that they were all born in Tippecanoe Co and Elijah Kendall died there. The mother later moved to Watseka, IL with her children.'" Joe goes on: "Believes that her GGF was the son of James Kendall and Ruhama Moore; based on naming patterns and the fact that there was an Elijah on the deed to heirs of James Kendall dated 14 Jan 1826. Remembers an Edwin Moore who came to their home in Bartlesville OK and traced the family with her grandfather William R Kendall. This was all done verbally and nothing was written down. Information was from the family bible of Elijah Kendall. In the `Montgomery Magazine', Montgomery Indiana April 1983 p.15, a breakdown of the family of James Kendall of Adams County is given." [ FK: info put into db ]
Joe notes this re son James: "James and Polly had 4 children: Milton, Alfred, Lears and Deborah." [ However, according to others, James married 2nd Leara _____; so I put the last 2 children into this family and changed the name Lears to Leara--FK ] Joe goes on with more info from 1850 Census of Tippecanoe Co IN--these are possibly further descendants.
--!Data on this line of Kendall/Kindel provided by: Mrs. Francis Bosshart (Waneta King), 25327 29th Ave South, Kent, WA 98032. She provided it May 3, 1983 to the Everton Co and I obtained a copy from Everton in 1987.
--Conflicting info: Yates Co FGR 1986 by Howard K Dixson, 9826 Bartley Ave,
Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670 and by:
--Frances E Miller, 1203 Dewey Ave, St.Joseph, MO 64501. Therefore I corrected Bosshart's data as needed. Notation by Dixson for James Kendall: "Migrated to western PA ca1773 with Lucas family. Located in Fayette Co. On 1786 tax list, Union twp."
--FGR by correspondent Anne Long, Route 2 Box 671, Grangeville, ID 83530 w/
letter of 23 Feb 1986 provided added info in agreement with Dixson. She shows 1750 as marriage date vs. abt 1775 from above info. She notes: "James Kendall Sr served in the RW as an Ensign, Bedford Co., PA--Series-Vol #4, page 453, Penn Archives--Born 2-16-1725, died 3-13-1798. (Also, see Wills-Fayette Co. PA, Vol #1, page 21.) To W. Penn 1773, Fayette Co., Union Twp."
--Correspondent Rick Kendall RKend318@aol.com added info 11 Sep 96. (Rick has large database)
--FGR of Lynn D Fleury shows birth place of James Sr as Washington Co MD, and she shows date of marr as 25 Feb 1745 vs 1750 of other authorities; and she shows only John and James as children vs total of 10 children shown by others. Lynn D Fleury, 640 McAdams Rd, Salina, KS 67401 per 1989 fgr at Yates Co.
--Correspondent Helen C Chapman <hcc24@airmail.net> msg 5 Mar 97 provided ancestors list & fgrs on James Kendall Sr/Ann Lucas line. She noted she has exchanged info with Rick Kendall <RKend318@aolcom> .
--Eileen Christensen <eileen@ctaz.com> post to GenForum 22 Apr 1999 shows her descent from James Kendall/Ann Lucas. She is in db as Rin# 23477.
--Joe Kendall <jmkendall@juno.com> post 15 Jan 99 to KENDALL-L (I believe Joe's email changed to jmk40@prodigy.net ): "Fayette Co PA Will Book 1, p.40: James Kendall Sr of Union Twp: made 13 Jun 1797, proved 13 Mar 1798. Wife Ann; Thomas, oldest son; daughters: Elizabeth (heirs), Mary (heirs), Sarah, Rena and Jemima. Sons: James, John and Samuel. Daughter Ann, husband Richard Lucas. Witnesses: John Kendall, Samuel Kendall and Isaac Sutton." Joe cites: Lucas Genealogy, compiled and published by Annabelle Kemp, Hollywood CA 1964, p.127: `Ann Lucas, 5th child of Cahs and Elizabeth Evans Lucas was b.17 Apr 1728 Prince George Co MD; married ca1748 James Kendall b.ca1725. They migrated into Western PA ca1773 with other members of the Lucas Family...They were living in the southwest section of what is now PA and at that time was part of Yohagany Co VA (see `Inhabitants of Washington Co PA" by Raymond M Bell p.16.'"

--See post to Rootsweb Kendall Msg Bd 31 May 2006 by Harold Coleman <hgcoleman@aim.com> : "Hi John. No, I don't think your line is connected to mine. Yours sounds like the Kendall's from western MD around Hagerstown that I've seen referenced. Mine are from Kent Co on the Eastern Shore. I am certain my 3GGF was Horace Kendall m. Nancy Wood. Before that is speculation, but we have a bible record that states his father was one Stephen Kendall and there are church records of two 18th century Stephen's in that area, which in turn go back to William Kendall and Elinor Roach (per church records)."
Correspondent Anne Long, Route 2 Box 671, Grangeville, ID 83530 w/ letter
and FGR's identifies this William Kendall/Elinor Roach as parents of James
Kendall who married Ann Lucas.
