I am also doing some research on the Foothrap, or variation thereof, family due to some past family connection. Seems they dropped the "e" after coming to the US as there are ancestor info from Massachusetts and New York. Web search shows a photographer using that name at http://www.footh.com/. Have not see a origin of the word as yet. Still working on that.
