You take Highway 119 from Pineville, KY to Harlan, KY and then take Highway 38 from Harlan to Highsplint or Closplint. The mines you are talking about is a little past the mining camp houses (that are now privately owned homes) at Closplint. There are two groups of houses (the first group was for the white families and the second group was for the black families). BTW there was never any problems between the two races, that I know of. About a mile or two past these camps you will see the mines. It was called the Clover Darby Mine Company when I was growing up there in the forties and fifties. You can get directions from Mapquest or other programs if you plan to travel there. You will come to Highsplint a few miles before you reach Closplint. Highsplint is across a bridge to your right. They are two different mining areas. Closplint had a mines and the one you are talking about is a little above Closplint and is still in operation. That area was/is? called Clover Darby.
