Mr. Basil A. Hancock, son of Sarah Bell Shuffett Hancock and the late Rufus Hancock was born 24 Jun 1931 in Green Co. and departed this life at 1 Mon 14 Jan [1985] at the T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow. He was 53 years, 6 months and 21 days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Greensburg Baptist Church at the time of his death. He was an employee of the Civil Service Dept. In Ft. Knox. He served in the military for 3 years and 2 months, during the Korean War. He was a member of the Rod Lowe Post, No. 124 and the Greensburg Masonic Lodge No. 54. He united in marriage to Audrey Johnson on 26 Apr 1958, who still survives. To this union were born 2 daughters and 1 son: Laura Ann Hancock, Nashville, Tenn; John Walter Hancock, Greensburg, and Sarah Ellen Hancock, also of Greensburg. Mr. Hancock is survived by 1 sister, Juanita Milby, Somerset. His brother, John Ed Hancock, preceded him in death 17 Dec 1984. Two nieces survive: Marytena Berry, Lexington, and Jan Cox, Somerset, along with a host of other relatives and friends. The remains were at the Cowherd and Parrott funeral Home where funeral services were conducted at 2 pm Wed. 15 Jan with burial in the Liberty Church Cem. Revs. George Price and Gleason Bloyd officiated. Active pallbearers were Sonny Pickett, Doug Pickett, Wayne Wright, Bill Edwards, Louie Hudgins, and Leon Upton. Honorary pallbearers were Loy Davis, Rollin Marshall Shuffett, Walton Shuffett, Wendall Hancock, Marion Beckett, Adrian Durbin, Dyke Hall, and David Hudgins.
