Hey...this is helpful....

Samuel Moore (1814-ABT1880)

Born in Scott County, VA (of course, that was the year it was approved to become a county from parts of Lee, Russell and Washington and actually started functioning as a county in 1815)

I don't have his father, but from a census search in 1820, I picked out three possible fathers who had sons of that age: Joel, Henry & Samuel. I believe Joel will be ruled out because of extensive research by a published geneaologist whose line I don't believe includes a son by the name of Samuel. So, now I'm down to Henry and Samuel (if I stick with this strategy until ruled out). In 1830, Samuel (the potential father of my Samuel) is back in Lee County due to what appears to be a slight county line shift between Lee and Scott County in 1822.

I don't know where my Samuel (younger Samuel) was in 1840. In 1844, I have his first of nine land grants split between Floyd and Lawrence County in what would all eventually become Martin County, KY. He married two women: Thursa Hardin in 1837 and then, Mary Maynard in 1863...both in Lawrence County, KY. I also don't know who Thursa Hardin's father was--though some say it was John Hardin according to a permission slip for marriage that I haven't yet found. It is interesting that the chain carrier for at least one of the land grants was a John Hardin. The only clue I have for Mary Maynard's father is from her death certificate which says Benjamin Maynard, birth place of father-VA. Mother is unknown. No online searches of records have turned up anything more on these two women except in census data with Samuel when listing children.

So, I would suspect that Samuel is hiding somewhere under my nose...but I don't see him in the 1840 census...so, really was reaching out to rule out this Estill County Samuel. You all are sooo helpful...and if you have any thoughts, I would love to hear them. I'm trying to circle my wagons and begin doing road trips now that I'm beginning to feel 11 years of online searching has not produced anything...This is my paternal great grandfather and my maternal 3rd great grandfather (my family wreath!)....
