I live in Christian County, Kentucky and have access to all of the birth, death, marriage, and census records. Some of the things your grandmother left in her notes are what the records here show and some of them don't match the records. My grandmother also left me a lot of family history notes and some of them were correct and some of them I have discovered were not correct. Here is what the records here show about James and Nancy West Williams and their children.

James Williams born around 1775 was married to Nancy West around 1793. We know that James Williams was in Christian Co. by 1797 because there is a court record of his serving on a committee in 1797 and he appears on the 1797 tax list. However, James Williams died after 1840 as he is listed in the 1840 census records here living near his son, Stephen Williams. He is not listed in the 1850 census, so we know he died sometime between 1840 and 1850. The James Williams who was the son of Jenkins Williams died in 1836, so this would not be the same James Williams.

We know that Nancy West Williams born around 1775, died sometime before 1820 because she is listed in the 1810 census, but is not in the 1820 census. The Miles West and Easter Adams do not at this point work out as her parents because their birth dates are about 20 years after her birth date.

James and Nancy did have 12 children. They were Jesse, Mary Polly, Stephen, Amos, Nancy B., Melinda, James Jr., Louisa, Iva, Alvin, Elizabeth and Warren.

James Jr., son of James and Nancy, was born May, 1806, and did not marry Lucy Goodrich and move to Indiana after Nancy died. He married Susannah Grisham on April 24, 1823 in Christian Co. and lived in Christian Co. his entire life. He died in Christian Co. before 1850 as he is listed in the 1840 census, but not in the 1850 census. He was not a doctor in Missouri and did not move to Missouri with Lousia and Amos. All of the court records show he spent his entire life in Christian County. He and Susannah had 4 children: Arena, Merrill Washington, Selina A, and James C. Williams aka "King" Williams. However, his brother Jesse Williams did live in Posey County, Indiana and was married to Nancy Caldwell.

Jesse, his wife Nancy, and his sister, Mary Polly who married Gillison Price, also lived in Wayne Co., Illinois.

Louisa Williams, daughter of James and Nancy, was born about 1808 and did marry Charles Mann in Indiana and moved to Missouri.

Amos Williams, son of James and Nancy, was born October 25, 1801 in Christian Co., married Candis Brewer on August 17, 1826 in Christian Co. and died March 6, 1876 in Mills County, Iowa. I have 17 children listed for them.

James and Nancy West did not have a daughter named Levisa Williams and I know nothing about her or a James McWhorter. What do you know about Levisa and why do you think she was listed by your grandmother as one of the children? There may be a connection somewhere.

I also have info on all of the other children of James and Nancy Williams as to their births, deaths, and marriages if you are interested in them.

Matching up everything with the records is what keeps us hunting and digging for the facts about our ancestors! We will just keep on until everything matches up for us :).
