I finally accessed the 1850 census for Gabriel due to concerns re: John E.'s mom. If John was b. 1848-1849 and Letitia Hambleton was still at home with her parents-where is he and I found him:
pg. 107a
27 170 171 BRICKEY Gabril 23 M farmer Va.
28 170 171 BRICKEY Laletea 20 F Ky.
29 170 171 BRICKEY John 1 M Ky.
From all this data, I would conclude that Gabriel Brickey was married twice. Letitia Hambleton is not John E.'s mother and if the info is truly there for a Letitia Burditt, then she must have passed and he married the Hambleton gal. My cousin married a descendant of John E. and I would love any actual documentation on the Burditt gal. If information has been found for Hannah Clemons, I would love that too as my husband's Burton tree includes them.
I have never seen a girl bound as an apprentice and wonder if that was done? I have seen the servant, etc. listed-one child I saw was only 7 years old and I wondered how much she could actually do. I thought that was what the census said, but did not know they were still doing this in 1900.
The picture of Gabriel's stone at findagrave is not very legible and I couldn't tell if it included anyone else.
Thank you!
