We are calling on all "BAKER-Kin" for some much needed help. We have traced our Baker-line back to an Elijah Baker, b. (between) 1786 - 1796. He married "UNKNOWN". He had these KNOWN children:
Bill Baker
Samuel B. Baker, b. Abt. 1810
Isaac Baker (our line) b. (between) 1812 - 1818 d. Aft 1885 in Powell Co., KY, and m. Jane STEIN
Elijah "Reverend Eli" Baker, II b. Abt. 1823, m. Margaret Patsy COLWELL/CALDWELL
We know for sure they had some connections to Grayson Co., VA. "Oral Family History" says that our BAKERs owned the land where Roanoke, VA presently sits. Issaac, Elijah, and Bill (William) were VERY COMMON, VERY REPETITIVE names used in our BAKER family. It's possible that our Elijah BAKER could be the Elijah Baker, b. 5/9/1789, son of Rev. Andrew and Elizabeth (AVANT/AVENT) BAKER. Rev Andrew BAKER had other children and grandchildren who settled in the areas of Hawkins AND Hancock Co's., TN
ANOTHER possibility for our Elijah is that he is the son of Isaac BAKER, b. 1757 in VA or NC and Hannah HOUSTON (they m. 1780) After Isaac and Hannah married they eventually settled in the Greene Co., TN area.
We've also found an Elijah BAKER who m. a Jane SETON on 11/30/1819 in Roane Co., TN
Many of the Virginia / North Carolina BAKER families settled in the Eastern-KY counties of Clay, Perry and Breathitt, but our Isaac BAKER (b. 1812-1818) eventually settled his family in the Estill/Powell Co., KY area. Many researchers have tried connecting the many "Appalachian-BAKER-families" with VA/NC locations, however we are trying to get our family straight.
In our rather-large file, we currently have: 14 Elijah BAKER's, 16 Isaac BAKER's, and 26 William/Bill BAKER's
As an outside chance, does anybody know of any connection of these BAKERs being linked to either the SIZEMORE or McCLURE families.
We have a rather-large file on John Renta BAKER's family as well as old notes on "immigrant" Andy BAKER, b. 1604.
Also, has anyone connected these BAKERs with the Isaac BAKER who "co-settled" Bristol VA/TN with Col. Evan Shelby? This Isaac m. Jane POSTLEWAITE (sp?)
And one final question, has anyone traced the Ancestors of the Isaac BAKER who was at Boonesboro?
VERY ANXIOUS ON A REPLY,
Larry and Brandan BAKER
