That information is very interesting and deepens the mystery of the Bourbon Co KY Barbee's! There was another Barbee family that lived in Bourbon Co during the same time as Elijah Barbee and family. I have not determined the connection between the two families. Joseph Barbee and wife Leeannah and their family came from VA and also settled in Bourbon Co. One of his grandsons had a farm in Bourbon Co and raised prize winning stock- "Fielding Joseph Barbee was a farmer and stock raiser; P.O. Paris, Bourbon CO KY proprietor of Glen Echo Farm. He received a liberal education, attending for a while the Western Military Institute which was under the supervision of Thornton F. Johnson as President. He is extensively engaged in breeding fancy stock of all kinds; one fancy team of horses he sold to the Japanese Minister, Jiro Ogura, to go to Japan.Cotswold sheep, descendants of imported stock; registered Jersey cattle and the most popular of short horned such as Flora, Branch of Rose of Sharon, Craggs, Young Phyliss, young marys, Imp Jessamine, London Duchess 15l for which he paid $4000; Imp Josephine; Imp Amelia and other popular families. He is one of the most important breeders of the region. His sales, both public and private have been bery large in numbers and have aggregated very many thousand dollars. He was at one time one of the directors of the Bourbon Co Agricultual Society; from 1855 to 1860 was engaged in the dry goods business in Lexington with Elliot & Co and during the war (Civil War) was extensively engaged in shipping mules to the South.
