This family has puzzled me for decades. George and Stella are pretty solid for dates etc. I have 5 children born to them, Cady (1889, WI), Mildred (1891, IA); Erma G. (1893, IA); Alta V (1898, IA); Olive E. (1898, IA).

I have no "Alice" in my records. How is it possible that the children born after George's death in 1891 have their father's name?
