Hi Ethel. My connection is to Barbara Ann Saum's younger sister Lucinda Saum who married Orin Cronkhite. My great great grandmother was Barbara Ann Cronkhite who married Hiram Long and was Lucinda's daughter. I surmise that my great great grandmother was named after her aunt Barbara Ann.

You have given me some considerable information on this line. Just to recap, this is everything I have been able to determine to date (with your help) concerning the descendants. I have nothing on second daughter Elizabeth, which is a stumbling block for me. Any corrections or additional information would be much appreciated:

He was born April 27, 1811 in Clear Creek Twsp., Warren Co., Ohio or Eaton, Ohio, and died November 27, 1851 in West Lebanon, Warren Co., Indiana.

The following was sent to me via e-mail by Ethel Beard Simons on April 21, 2003:

"Joseph was born 27 Apr 1811 Clear Cr Twp., Warren Co., Ohio to Henry Null (Jr. to distinguish him from his Uncle Henry), & Elizabeth Null (dau of Henry Null Jr. & Susanna Arey). Joseph died 27 Nov 1851 in Warren Co., Indiana. He marr. Barbara Ann Saum 26 Jan 1841.

Joseph grew up in Washington Twp., Preble Co., Ohio. His father had quite a [bit] of land around old Zion Evang. Luth. Church, which still stands vacant. Henry, Elizabeth and many members of the family are buried there.


Henry Kesling (he spelled his [surname] Kisling) was the son of Teterich (Teter) Kesling who was born in 1750 in Steinau, Hesse-Hanau, to Christopher Sebastian Kesling & Gertrauda Kautz. Christopher was born 1713 in what is now Saxony. He migrated in 1754 to Penna., and shortly after that went down into Virginia in what is now Rockingham Co. He died there in the 1770's. Apparently Gertrauda died enroute, or in Penna. Christopher remarried to Christina Lingel and had a large family.

Teter descends from the first marriage. Teter married Elizabeth Link Fudge, widow of David Fudge Sr. Teter helped raise her boys Jacob and David Jr., plus they had a large family. I descend from their son John, brother of Henry (Jr.). The Fudge brothers also lived in Preble Co. where Jacob was the first Sherif.


We have this family back to about 1550 in Posseck (now Saxony). We got together and all donated whatever we could and hired a good researcher over there. A descendant of Henry (brother of Teter) and a friend (a native German) worked hard on the records. We have a wonderful work-up and family.

This August will be our 100th Kesling Reunion. It will be held at Kesling Park near Springboro. This was John's land, but was donated for a Park. Teter's house and barn still stand and are lived in."
