I have a short history of Avilla written in 1983. It does not mention a fire. The first church building was dedicated in 1853.

The current church building had the cornerstone laid 1876 by Father Duemig and was dedicated 1878. Church bells rang for the first time in 1892. So perhaps records were lost or misplaced during the building of the new church?
